vegetable oil
3/4 cup
Water - warm
1 couple pinches
Salt
3 cup
All purpose flour
1/2 cup
Lard or Crisco shortening
Buñuelos

One of my favorite desserts during the Christmas Holidays. My grandma used to make them on New Years eve and we would enjoy them on New Years day. I remember seeing the rounds air drying and my mouth watering with anticipation. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

  1. Work shortening into flour and salt with a pastry blender or your hands.
  2. Add warm water and stir until dough comes together.
  3. Roll out to very thin rounds 7-8 inches in diameter.
  4. Set the rounds to air dry for 30 minutes
  5. Heat oil in a shallow skillet until hot. (350 degrees)
  6. Drop rounds flat into hot oil, brown lightly about 30 seconds on each side.
  7. Remove from skillet and sprinkle to taste with topping mixture of cinnamon and sugar.
